Jnr Room Art

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This year we did not get a chance to enter our art at the IverkShow but that did not stop Junior & Senior Infants and First Class from completing a fantastic array of art at home. The dandelion art is really bright and cheery. The construction pieces such as the horse shop and Olympic soccer make great use of lego. There is a marvelous tent and a fantastic wildflower collage. We have some drawings from the farm, a very hungry caterpillar, a birthday wish and a fabulous rainbow. The kitchen paper patterns are just stunning.

Activities During Lockdown

Jnr and Snr Infants and First Class from Mrs. Walsh’s room were very busy learning through play and learning from their environment. Check out the photos above to see where you could get a lovely cake or some scones. We had some science activities also such as planting apple seeds and investigating objects that float and sink. From camping to art to walking in the woods, you are all great!

Sports Day Jnr Room

Jnr and Snr Infants and First Class from Mrs. Walsh’s room had great fun doing Sports Day at home. It is great to see our traditional sports day activities such as the sack race, welly throw, long jump, water relay and throwing pegs in the bucket.  Well done to the boys who are practising their football and hurling skills. We hope you get back training soon. The winning photo has to be that fantastic obstacle course. You should be really proud!

Clic News Junior Journalist Competition

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Fifth and Sixth Class have enjoyed working with Clic News this year and have continued the work from home and are to be commended for this. They got an opportunity to be a reporter for Clic News, by writing a news story about an event that they had been involved in and had taken place in their lives over the last academic year. They also had to have a photo of the event. We had a great response and 6th Class wrote stories about The Best Under 13 Final Ever, Lanzarote for Children, Disneyland Paris and Do It For Dan!  The fifth class stories were Active Home Week 2020, Gymnastic Ireland Competition 2020, Halloween at St Brendan’s,  Sydney, Artarmon 2019 and Kilkenny Pantomine 2020. While all students did a great job, Congratulations are due to Ellie and Mary Kate the Clic News Junior Journalists 2020. Ellie wrote about Warrington Equestrian Centre’s Christmas Show 2019 while Mary-Kate reported on The Funky Kids Performance 2020. Their stories are now up on Clic News so 5th and 6th Class login and check them out!

Active Home Week

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This year at  St Brendan’s we have worked consistently towards achieving our first Active School Flag. Next week was to be Active School Week and we were really looking forward to it. Now we want you to take the Active Home Week challenge (27th April to May 3rd) and to go out and enjoy the good weather and do 60 minutes of exercise every day. We have sent each student a challenge chart to record 4 activities each day and a letter to parents as you see in the slides above. Don’t forget to email your photos or upload them to SeeSaw! Remember our Active School Slogan Jump, Run,  Dance Play, Get Active Every Day! Here are some links to get you started:

Today (Friday, March 20th) was supposed to be Confirmation Day for 5th and 6th Class in St Brendan’s N.S. As you are all at home disappointed, I want to cheer you up and remind you of the great show that all the school did with Denis and Olivia from Funky Kids, and the tremendous fun we had both preparing for it and performing on the night.

Making Butter

Jnr & Snr Infants and First Class had a lot of fun making butter. You had to shake it and shake it until you were tired, but the reward was tasting the creamy butter on the bread. As you can see like it was a tremendous success.
